In 2001 my father passed away and I inherited, amongst other items, three galvanised watering cans.  As my father was a keen gardener, his water cans were an important part of his hobby, I decided that as a tribute to my father I would paint these cans with roses for my sisters.  I read many books and attended courses on painting roses and castles but it was not until almost eight years, and many mistakes, in 2009 I learned to paint “Roses and Castles “ in the manner truly associated with the Canals taught by a Master of the Waterways Craft Guild, Dave Moore.

Now I have reached a level considered to be good by another Master of the Guild, Phil Speight, and 2014 I was accredited as a Journeyman of the Guild and hope shortly to be honoured with the title of Senior Journeyman.

I have become passionate about the canals in particular the old boatyard painters such as Ron Hough, Frank Nurser, Bill Hodgeson etc.

I visit canal fairs regularly to demonstrate what I do and allow the public to “Have a Go”
